Meet Toffee!
Looking for a foster or adopter who understands the beauty (and brains!) of Aussie/Border Collie mixes.
Toffee is a stunning 16-month-old, 35-pound red Australian Shepherd/Border Collie mix with all the charm and intelligence you’d expect from her breed blend. Born on March 10, 2024, she’s still a young pup at heart — clever, energetic, affectionate, and full of potential.
Toffee’s perfect match? Someone with herding breed experience (or a strong interest in learning) who appreciates a dog that’s highly focused, loyal, and eager to work — and play!
Why You’ll Love Her:
- Incredibly clever, cuddly, and sweet
- Makes the most adorable “awoo” sounds
- Great with her crate — it’s her cozy spot!
- Loves to learn and is very treat motivated
- Knows sit, touch, “leave it,” and sometimes down
- Bonds deeply and is very loyal
- Great listener and low shedder
- Can coexist peacefully with a well-matched dog companion (2-4 years old)
- Potty trained and signals when she needs to go out
- Spayed and ready for her forever home!
Her Ideal Home:
Toffee would thrive in a quiet, adult-only home — ideally with a single person or couple and another dog to show her the ropes. She blossoms in calm, structured environments without lots of new visitors or overwhelming activity. A yard with at least a 5-foot fence is a must — this athletic girl can easily scale a shorter one! Toffee would also excel in active hobbies that engage her mind and body.
She’s best suited for a cat-free home and not recommended around children due to her sensitivity and prey drive.
Still a Work in Progress:
Like most young dogs, Toffee is still learning! She’s working on:
- Jumping up in excitement when you come home
- Reactivity to people outside the house or on walks
- Being a bit “pawsy” and puppy-nippy
- Some car sickness (though improving!)
- Resource guarding of her person
- Some fence jumping and prey drive outdoors
Toffee has shown some reactivity and will need someone who understands how to gently redirect and manage her triggers. She’s never bitten, but has shown signs of discomfort with unfamiliar people in close spaces — something a patient, breed-savvy person can help her continue to navigate.
If you’re ready to help a brilliant, loving dog grow into her best self — and want a loyal companion for life — Toffee might just be your perfect match. Whether you’re looking to foster or adopt, she’s ready to meet you!
